First European Mussel Farm Earns BAP Certification

Offshore Shellfish Ltd., which operates the United Kingdom’s first large-scale, offshore rope-cultured mussel farm, recently obtained Best Aquaculture Practices (BAP) certification, the Global Aquaculture Alliance (GAA) announced in early September. BAP Program Grows 29 Percent in 2018

It’s official. The industry-leading Best Aquaculture Practices (BAP) third-party certification program closed out 2018 on a high note, finishing up the year with 2,287 BAP-certified facilities worldwide. Of the 2,287 BAP-certified facilities, 1,534 are farms, 370 are processing plants, 45 are re-processing plants, 220 are hatcheries and 118 are feed mills. Additionally, there are 245 farms that were previously BAP-certified but are currently in fallow. The 1,500-plus farms represent more than 1.5 million metric tons of production annually. Number of BAP-Certified Facilities Hits 2,155

With the first 10 months of 2018 in the books, the Global Aquaculture Alliance (GAA) is pleased to announce that the number of Best Aquaculture Practices (BAP)-certified facilities is up 21.2 percent this year. There were 2,155 BAP-certified processing plants, farms, hatcheries and feed mills at the end of October, including 1,451 farms, 372 processing plants, 217 hatcheries and 115 feed mills.
